Individuals issued a trespass warning have the right to appeal. The first step to the objection is to
request a Trespass Formal Hearing. To appeal the outcome of a formal hearing, individuals must
submit this Trespass Appeal Request Form. Appeals will follow the procedures outlined below.
INSTRUCTIONS
- The Trespass Appeal Request Form must be submitted to the DPSS Executive Director within
21 days of the date of the letter notifying the petitioner of the outcome of the formal hearing.
- Written appeals may be submitted electronically to
DPSS-Trespass-Appeal@umich.edu or by mail to
the attention of the DPSS Executive Director, Trespass Appeals, 109 E. Madison, Ann Arbor,
Michigan 48109.
- Upon receipt of an appeal, appellants will be contacted by DPSS within 14 days to schedule the
date and time of your appeal.
- Appeals will be heard at the DPSS office, located at 109 E. Madison Street; Ste. 3000;
Ann Arbor, MI 48109.
CONSIDERATIONS
- All appeals will be considered. The executive director will use discretion when considering an
appeal based on the incident report, written appeal, and whether any circumstances have changed
since the formal hearing.
- Appeal hearings granted by the executive director will take place in person after the appeal
form has been submitted, received, and reviewed.
- Recording of the appeal meeting is prohibited.
- The trespass warning remains in effect during the appeal process.
OUTCOME OF APPEAL
- The executive director may uphold, modify, or rescind the trespass warning and will provide the
appellant notice of the decision in writing within 21 days.
- The executive director's decision is final.
